My daughter and I share our beauty, resilience, and DNA, but we're fighting Elevated Lp(a) together.
My daughter and I share our beauty, resilience, and DNA, but we're fighting Elevated Lp(a) together.
Today is LP(a) Awareness Day and I am sharing My Heart Health Journey because now, is my Fight Against Living with Apolipoprotein: Elevated Lp(a)
About 60 million Americans may be affected by high Lp(a) and may not know it. Because high Lp(a) is inherited, a high result for you could mean that other members of your family might also be at risk!
Ten years into my heart crisis, I thought I'd faced it all. But then, a life-changing diagnosis shook me to my core - apolipoprotein. The emotional toll was crushing. After a stroke, two heart attacks, open heart surgery, and countless procedures, I felt like I'd been to hell and back. The Why me? Echoed in my mind like a relentless drumbeat.
But then, a glimmer of hope. At the American Cardiology College Conference, I learned about a game-changing test. I insisted my cardiologist administer it, and the results confirmed my worst fears. I was emotional, but I refused to let it define me.
Fast forward to my daughter's diagnosis with the same condition was a wake-up call like no other. I knew I had to act fast. With our family's history of hereditary apolipoprotein, I urged everyone in my family to get tested. Knowledge is power, and I'm determined to use mine to fight back.
Apolipoprotein may be a relatively new discovery, but I'm determined to raise awareness about the urgency of getting tested. DNA doesn't have to dictate our destiny. My daughter and I share our beauty, resilience, and DNA, but we're fighting this together. We're taking control and living beyond our diagnosis.
